In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Flat Rock; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Michigan are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–9:30 pm. It is closed on Monday. Finally got a new spot to try something different in this little town. They got indian cuisine and now Hawaiian. Seriously flat rock is setting up their game. So lets get to the positive things first. Portion was huge for the price. Got the chicken katsu and man this chicken was super crispy. The chicken inside was well seasoned. Breading not so much. Not super moist but the star is the dipping sauce that packs umami flavor and doesnt make the breading soggy. Rice was good. Fluffy. Macaroni salad was also good. Not mayo heavy. Perfectly cook pasta that held onto the dressing so well I could taste it in every bite. Also got the spam musubi. First time trying it. The spam was grilled and coated in a delicious sauce and wrapped around that fluffy rice and nori which is seaweed. Its different but in a good way. Opens your palate to new flavors. Overall fantastic food for a good price. Only thing they gotta work on is the ordering system which didnt tell me it was ready. Minor complaint tho. 8.5 outta 10 for this place

My wife and I were excited to try Okika Hawaiian BBQ for the first time, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to our expectations. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the prices were fair, which we definitely appreciated. However, the food was disappointing. Most of the dishes lacked flavor and came across as fairly bland. On top of that, both the fish and shrimp were overcooked, which took away from what could have been a much better meal. We really wanted to love this place, especially after hearing good things, but the food just didn't deliver the experience we were hoping for. While we appreciate the kind service and reasonable pricing, we left wishing the flavors and execution had matched the promise.

Made the drive from the far northeast corner of Southgate to satisfy my love for Hawaiian Style food. I decided to not order ahead and just walk in to see what I felt inspired to try. It took just over 10 minutes from the time my order receipt was printed to when i was walking out the door with my food. Maybe my order was easy or maybe my Hawaii’s Finest shirt sped up the process as I received my food before the people who ordered before me. πŸ˜ŽπŸ€™πŸΌ I usually make it a point to immediately eat a spam musubi before I leave the parking lot and it was delicious. The BBQ beef and Fire Chicken were very good and I didn’t get any funky pieces of meat. The mac salad was good too, about what you’d expect if you’ve had Hawaiian style mac salad before. They had a solid selection of drinks that you’d find in Hawaii as well. I would say the only thing that needs work is the atmosphere. Granted, you’re not really going to eat there since there are only 2 tables with 8 seats total. However, the decor is your usual small Tiki masks and small wooden surfboards on the wall. The music should have been some kind of traditional Hawaiian or Island Reggae. I will absolutely be back to try more ono grinds

There's finally a good Hawaiian restaurant Downriver. Stopped by to pick up some lunch and was not disappointed. Staff was friendly, and my take out order was ready in a few minutes. Both the Spam musubi and Kalua pork were fantastic. Took me back to when I visited the Big Island and Oahu a few years ago. The prices were very reasonable, and they give giant portions. I'll definitely be returning.

Low atmosphere score because it’s mostly take out but don’t let that fool you. The food is fire! We ordered a family meal w spicy chicken, katsu chicken and kalua pork. Ngl all that was GREAT! Mac and rice do their job but the meats are where it’s at. Great portion sizes. Def an easy recommend.
